The Transplant Immunology Research Centre of Excellence (TIREX) at Koç University in Istanbul is seeking a post-doc with extensive experience in molecular and cellular biology methodologies.

TIREX is funded by the European Union Horizon 2020 ERA Chair program for five years and aims to foster interdisciplinary research in the field of Transplant Immunology by bridging the scientific activities of organ transplantation centers in Türlkiye with those of Europe and the Middle East.

 JOB DESCRIPTION

Designing and conducting experiments as a senior member of the “Experimental Studies Group” of TIREX.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Establishing and maintaining primary cell cultures, immortalized cell lines, pluripotent cell lines, co-cultures, organospheres, etc.
• Molecular manipulation (gene silencing, overexpression, mutagenesis, etc.) of cells, and animals when needed
• Designing and conducting experiments to test hypotheses developed by TIREX members on appropriate cell culture and animal models
• Designing projects and writing grants to contribute to the financial sustainability of TIREX
• Periodically monitoring cultures for contamination
• Organizing and conducting regular cleaning procedures of the equipment to minimize contamination risk
• Transferring experimental skills to other members of TIREX and (under)graduate students

REQUIREMENTS

• A PhD degree in molecular biology, cell biology, or a related field in biological & life sciences
• Demonstrable extensive experience with various cell & tissue culture models
• Experience with immune cells is desirable
• Experience with stem cells is desirable
• Experience with animal experiments is desirable
• Fluency in English is a must
• International research experience is desirable
